This year, we’re proud to share that 5 scholars were awarded the Singapore-Industry Scholarship (SgIS) with Obayashi Singapore.
On 28 July 2026, the SgIS Award Ceremony was held to recognise the academic excellence of outstanding and promising students, graced by Guest of Honour Mr Desmond Lee, Minister for Education. SgIS, an esteemed undergraduate scholarship programme cultivating future leaders across Singapore’s diverse sectors, brought together scholars and industry partners for the occasion — and our team was proud to be there, celebrating our new SgIS cohort as they embark on their journey with us.
One story stood out to us in particular. In his address, Minister Desmond Lee shared how Muhammad Aarifeen Bin Iskander Shah, an OSPL scholar pursuing Civil Engineering at SIT, sees engineering not just as a technical field, but as a way to integrate design, sustainability, and community needs for more liveable cities. Beyond the classroom, Aarifeen volunteers with Meals on Wheels, delivering hot meals to seniors and individuals with mobility difficulties, and with the Tembusu Eldercare Centre — experiences that have deepened his empathy for the people who ultimately use the spaces engineers help create. It’s a mindset we’re proud to see in our scholars — the best engineers don’t just calculate loads and design structures, they design with people in mind.
We remain committed to nurturing young local talent and building a strong pipeline of future leaders in the built environment sector. Looking forward to supporting our scholars every step of the way.
Heartiest congratulations to all our 2026 SgIS Scholars!
