In early March, Obayashi Corporation was pleased to host delegates from the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA) as part of their Tokyo Study Tour – Advancing Architectural Excellence & MET Innovation.
Through visits to significant landmark projects by renowned Japanese architects, the delegation sought to gain deeper insights into the integration of design thinking, technological innovation, and urban responsiveness.
Cross-cultural knowledge exchange is a key aspect of the tour, aimed at strengthening long-term professional and institutional ties between the Singapore and Japanese architectural communities.
Obayashi was proud to host a visit to PortPlus, our next-generation training facility located in Yokohama. As Japan’s first mid-rise pure wooden fireproof building, PortPlus demonstrates the use of Mass Engineered Timber (MET) across its structural elements, reflecting our commitment to sustainable and innovative construction. The project has received multiple international and domestic certifications, recognising its excellence in sustainability, wellness, and environmental performance.
We also welcomed the delegates to our head office in Shinagawa, where our teams shared insights into Obayashi’s construction capabilities, as well as our ongoing efforts in research, innovation, and sustainability-driven businesses.
We were pleased to have had this opportunity for meaningful exchange and look forward to continued engagement with industry partners.
